Understanding Producer Obligations
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a regulatory framework under which tyre manufacturers and importers are legally obligated to ensure the safe collection and recycling of a defined proportion of the tyres they place on the market each year.
Under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) EPR guidelines for tyres, producers are required to register on the CPCB portal and partner with registered recyclers to demonstrate annual compliance. Failure to comply attracts financial penalties and regulatory scrutiny.
